Rock group Spider wins Juara Lagu award

KUALA LUMPUR: Relaku Pujuk sung by rock band Spider was named “Song of the Year” at TV3’s 19th annual song competition, Anugerah Juara Lagu, last night.

The song also emerged tops in the pop rock category in the competition held at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil here.

Spider members – Tam, Tony, Nafi and Ayie – took home a trophy and RM25,000 for the Song of the Year award and won another RM12,000 and a trophy under the pop rock category.

The song was composed by vocalist-songwriter Tam and its lyrics were penned by Keon.

Crowd favourite Misha Omar won for the best vocal effort with her hit Pulangkan and took home RM10,000 and a trophy.

Pulangkan, composed by Ajai and written by Shuhaimi Baba and Habsah Hassan, is also the theme song of the horror movie Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam.

The song came out tops under the best ballad category.

The winners walked away with a trophy and RM12,000.

In the ethnic creative category, Erti Hidup, penned by Afdlin Shauki with lyrics by Aji and sung by Dayang Nurfaizah was the winner.

Noraniza Idris who staged a superb performance, complete with stunning Javanese dance routines, was a clear winner for the best performance award with her song entitled Hatinya Tak Tahan. ~BORIIINNGGGG~

She took home a trophy and RM10,000.

This year’s competition also saw fresh faces like Vince Chong (the winner of Akademi Fantasia 1), Ruffedge and Sharifah Zarina.

The event hosted by popular personalities Sarimah Ibrahim, Mohd Najip Ali and Cheryl Samad was aired live at 8.30pm.

The competition was also broadcast live over THR.FM.

This year’s show was slightly different from the previous Anugerah Juara Lagu as viewers and fans at home and in the stadium could vote for the Best Performance award winner – 50% of the marks for each contestant were from the people while the remaining 50% were from a group of professionals.

Also present at the show was Datin Paduka Seri Endon Mahmood, wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
